Kyra W.

Kyra is a Kinesiology student at the University of Victoria with a passion for working with children and helping students build confidence in their abilities. She tutors a range of subjects including English, essay writing, psychology, middle school science, high school biology and pre-calculus, as well as university-level EPHE 141 and EPHE 143.
Kyra has experience tutoring students as well as working with children through childcare, mentoring, summer camp, and community programs. These experiences have strengthened her ability to connect with young people and create positive, encouraging learning environments.
Kyra recognizes that every student learns differently and takes the time to understand each learner’s strengths, challenges, and individual learning style. Her goal is to pursue a career as a pediatric occupational therapist, combining her interest in education with her love of working with children.
Outside of school, Kyra enjoys running, hiking, travelling, and music. She played clarinet for six years and loves finding ways to connect with students through their own interests.

Hanh P.

Hanh is an experienced educator with a Ph.D. in Educational Studies from the University of Victoria and more than 15 years of experience supporting students from diverse academic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. Her experience as an Academic Skills Advisor at UVic and a Learning Strategist at UBC Okanagan has strengthened her ability to understand individual learning needs and help students build both skills and confidence.
Hanh specializes in Academic English, academic writing, research, reading, communication, and effective learning strategies. She supports students at different stages of their academic journey, from first-year students adjusting to university or college to graduate students working on assignments, research proposals, literature reviews, and theses. Her warm, strengths-based approach creates a welcoming, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace. She helps students break challenging tasks into manageable steps, recognize their strengths, and develop practical strategies they can use independently.
Outside of work, Hanh enjoys yoga, walking, spending time in nature, and exploring new places.

Emma D.

Emma is a certified BC teacher with experience teaching both elementary and secondary students. She holds a degree in Linguistics and Language from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Education from UBC. After teaching in Vancouver for the past five years, Emma recently made the move to Victoria and is excited to call the Island home.
Emma has experience teaching French Immersion, Core French, literacy, and elementary academics, along with more than 10 years of tutoring experience. She particularly enjoys supporting literacy and helping students build confidence and independence.
Emma believes strong relationships are at the heart of learning and takes the time to understand each student’s strengths, interests, and individual learning style.
Outside of teaching, Emma enjoys learning new languages, reading, travelling, walking along the beach, and visiting local farmers’ markets.

Hanif M.

Hanif is a passionate MATHEMATICS educator and experienced ESL instructor with a strong academic background and a genuine love of teaching. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Dhaka and is currently pursuing a Master of Engineering in Applied Data Science at the University of Victoria.
With a strong foundation in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, and problem-solving, Hanif brings both mathematical expertise and an analytical approach to his teaching. He also has extensive experience teaching English as a Second Language, including IELTS preparation, speaking, writing, reading, and communication skills.
Hanif’s teaching style is patient, encouraging, and interactive. He enjoys breaking challenging concepts into manageable steps and adapting his approach to each student’s individual learning needs. One of his favourite parts of teaching is seeing a student understand something that once felt difficult and gain the confidence to work independently.
Whether supporting a student in mathematics or English, Hanif brings clarity, enthusiasm, and genuine care to every lesson.

Nicole B.

Nicole is completing her final year in Mathematics at the University of Victoria, with plans to pursue a career in teaching. Alongside her university studies, she works as a program leader with the District of Saanich, leading creative after-school programs and summer camps for local youth.
Nicole understands that math can sometimes feel intimidating, and she brings a supportive, relaxed, and encouraging approach to her sessions. She believes students are most motivated when they feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and being themselves. Her goal is to help students strengthen their understanding of math while building the confidence to approach new challenges with greater independence.
Growing up in the mountains of Whistler, Nicole developed a love of the outdoors and stays active through biking, hiking, and climbing. At UVic, she shares this passion as an executive member of the university’s climbing club.
Nicole loves that tutoring gives her the opportunity to connect with students, revisit foundational concepts, and continually grow as both a mathematician and future educator.

Somyata G.

Somyata is a PhD Candidate in the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria, where her research explores interculturalism and the experiences of international students in higher education. Her academic work centres on fostering inclusive learning environments and understanding how culture and learning styles shape students’ educational experiences.
A Gold Medal recipient for academic excellence in her Master of Education program, Somyata brings more than five years of experience in educational research and student support. As a Learning Strategist at UVic’s Centre for Accessible Learning, she develops individualized learning strategies for diverse learners, including international students, ESL learners, and students with exceptionalities.
Somyata is particularly skilled in academic writing, reading, research methodology, thesis preparation, communication skills, and helping students interpret and apply academic feedback. Her experience also includes roles with UVic’s English Language Centre, Globalink Mitacs, and as an ESL Instructor, supporting students from more than 20 countries.
Fluent in English and Hindi, with intermediate proficiency in German, Somyata brings a thoughtful, collaborative, and culturally responsive approach to tutoring. She is passionate about helping students build the skills, strategies, and confidence to become more independent learners.

Carrie T.

Carrie is an energetic educator, tutor, and enthusiastic champion of literacy with a Bachelor of Education and a lifelong love of learning. Her wonderfully unconventional career has carried her from elementary classrooms in Canada to the colourful, high-energy classrooms of Bangkok, where she taught English and Science to young learners. She has also worked as an education assistant, volunteered for several years as an EAL tutor, and has created memorable experiences for children as a Children’s Activities Coordinator aboard cruise ships. At the heart of it all, Carrie’s biggest passion is literacy education. She believes that strong reading and writing skills can open doors, build confidence, and transform a child’s relationship with learning. She continues to expand her expertise through professional learning in structured literacy education. She brings warmth, creativity, humour, and plenty of encouragement to every lesson, adapting her approach to the individual strengths, interests, and learning needs of each student. An enthusiastic traveller, she loves discovering new places, meeting people from around the world, and collecting stories along the way. If learning is a journey, Carrie arrives with a map, a stack of books, and enough enthusiasm to make the adventure worthwhile!

Nardos M.

Nardos is an experienced educator, university tutor, and mechanical and manufacturing engineering professional with more than 15 years of teaching and mentoring experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, is currently completing an Executive MBA, and has a Certificate in Organizational Analysis. He previously served as Director of STEM and Advanced Programs at London International Academy, where he taught high school courses, led robotics and technology programs, and prepared students for post-secondary studies.
Nardos supports students from Grade 6 through university in mathematics, physics, engineering, and computer science. His areas of expertise include Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Functions, Calculus, Statistics, university-level mathematics, Physics, Python programming, data analysis, and robotics.
Nardos believes that even the most complex concepts can be made clear and approachable. He connects mathematical and scientific concepts to real-world applications and adapts his teaching to each student’s strengths, learning needs, and goals. His supportive approach helps students build confidence, critical-thinking skills, and academic independence. Nardos is fluent in English, Amharic, and Swahili.
