Don B.

Donald is an experienced mathematics educator and tutor with more than 30 years of teaching experience. He holds a Bachelor of Education with a major in Secondary Mathematics from the University of Calgary and has taught mathematics from Grade 10 through university. He also brings four years of online tutoring experience.
Donald particularly enjoys working one-on-one with students and building strong rapport, taking the time to get to know them as both people and learners. He believes students learn best when they feel comfortable, understood, and supported, and enjoys bringing humour into his lessons to create a relaxed and positive learning environment.
Donald adapts his teaching to how each student learns best and is especially passionate about helping students who have lost confidence in mathematics recognize what they are capable of. He focuses on understanding rather than memorization, helping students become confident, independent problem-solvers. Whether a student is catching up, preparing for an exam, or looking for a greater challenge, Donald enjoys finding the explanation that makes the mathematics finally “click.”
Donald lives on Texada Island and tutors students online. Outside of teaching, he is a pilot with a long-standing interest in aviation and is currently learning to sail. After more than 30 years in education, he still gets a genuine thrill when a student suddenly says, “Oh, now I get it!”
