WARDA S.

Warda is a third-year Mechatronics Engineering student at the University of Waterloo. She has completed multiple internships in various engineering fields from Manufacturing Analyst at Centra Industries, to Software Assurance at i4i, to Sales Engineer at HTS. She is currently on her fifth coop term as a Mechanical Designer at Smith and Andersen. Besides work and school, Warda loves to volunteer and spends her time giving back to the community. She has accumulated over 150 volunteer hours, through participation at summer camps for kids with disabilities and at animal shelters. Warda has prior experience mentoring kids from her coop position at i4i, where she discovered her passion for tutoring. She believes in being a role model to her students, helping them develop both hard and soft skills, that will be beneficial for their future. And when she is not busy working, studying or teaching, she loves to paint and read!

LINDSAY H.

Lindsay graduated from the Concurrent Education program at Brock University with a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Studies and a Bachelor of Education in the primary and junior divisions. Since then, she has obtained additional qualifications to enhance her practice in Reading and Mathematics along with to teach Intermediate English, Special Education, English as a Second Language.

Lindsay has experience in Canadian classrooms teaching Math, Language, Science, Social Studies and the Arts in Grades 1 through 8. She has also taught and tutored in Namibia, Peru and China.

Lindsay uses her passion and enthusiasm towards teaching and learning to establish a positive learning environment with her students. She believes an environment where questions are encouraged and mistakes are respected is one that will promote success in each child’s learning. Lindsay recognizes that learning is an individual process and thus works hard to tailor her instruction to use each student’s strengths in order to address their needs.

Lindsay has a passion for working with children both inside and outside the classroom. She spends her spare time coaching children’s soccer as well as volunteering in special education settings within her local school board.

AISHA G.

Aisha is a second-year industrial engineering student at the University of Toronto. She is also doing a minor in business. For the past 3 years, she has tutored high school students in various subjects; primarily math and science. She has also been tutoring two autistic students for the past 2 years. She has completed the SAT with 1510/1600, and she also completed the IB curriculum successfully (42/45).

Aisha has a very positive and motivating approach when it comes to tutoring. She understands that some topics may be easier and some might be hard. Therefore, she uses an analytical approach to understand where the student struggles and uses positive language and demeanor to fully support the student. She also communicates with the student’s parents regularly and provides feedback. To her, tutoring is a triangle between the tutor, the student, and the parents.

In her free time, she enjoys horse riding and hanging out with her friends. She also loves playing tennis and working out.

CARMEL Y.

Carmel Youkhana completed her Bachelor of Education at Nipissing University in April 2022. Prior to this, she attended Wilfrid Laurier University where she enjoyed completing her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology. Throughout her teenage years, Carmel loved working at various summer camps and tutored English, which is where her passion for working with children began. As she continued to take on teaching roles during her university career, she realized her love for education and learning. For the past year and a half, Carmel has had the pleasure of teaching English to international students ages 3-12 through an online learning platform. She believes in fostering confidence in all her students and has a passion for making learning an enjoyable experience.

During her teaching practicum, Carmel taught students in the intermediate/senior division, specifically grade 8’s and all grades in high school. She has taught a variety of subjects in the classroom but has always had a knack for science/biology and English. Carmel’s job as an English teacher has given her the opportunity to work with a wide range of students in a one- on-one setting, developing her ability to build strong relationships and personalize lessons. She has a strong desire to see students succeed and will guide them to reaching their full potential. Outside of teaching, you can find Carmel hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, and spending quality time with her friends and family.

MEGHAN A.

Hello! Bonjour! Ciao!
My name is Meghan Anderson and I have been a teacher for 22 years. I originally started my career teaching with the Greater Essex County District School Board in Windsor Ontario but moved to the Peel District School Board 18 years ago. I have been a teacher with Peel teaching all subjects, mainly in French immersion from grades 1-5. I am currently the physical education teacher for grades 2-5 in French. I have also taught for a year in Kuwait and have done summer camps in Korea and China.
In my personal life, I spend my weekends walking my dog Bella, reading and love cooking great food.
I am really looking forward to meeting all families and I thank Prep Academy Tutors for this wonderful opportunity.

DIEM L.

Diem is an Ontario Certified Teacher. She completed her teaching education at Medaille College in Buffalo, NY. As a young child, she knew she wanted to be a teacher and kept that as her main goal throughout her schooling. She also comes with a background in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development. She is currently a Kindergarten teacher with the Peel District School Board with a class of 30 young minds to mold! She exudes a cheerful and energetic disposition when working with students. In her 8 years as a Kindergarten educator, her goals have always been to make sure students are learning at their own pace, celebrating their accomplishments no matter how little and making sure they always have fun in their journey of learning!

She believes in teaching her students to always have a can-do attitude when it comes to challenging tasks. She is also a mentor in her school advocating the Leader in Me principles for students and fellow teachers. Her philosophy is based on The Seven Habits; inspiring the love of learning and leadership in every child. “When students become leaders, they become active, engaged partners in their own education and their self-confidence, responsibility and initiative grows.”

During her time away from the joys and stresses of the classroom; she enjoys hiking, playing tennis, engaging in a rousing game of ping pong with her dad, scrapbooking and watching competitive cooking shows

JOCELYN H.

Jocelyn is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student at the University of Guelph with a passion for teaching children and helping them grow into the best versions of themselves. After completing her undergraduate degree, Jocelyn will be heading to Teacher’s College to pursue her career as an Elementary School Teacher. Jocelyn is an outgoing, personable, and studious individual who enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outside, going to the gym, traveling, and trying new food! Recently Jocelyn spent 4 months working as an Emergency Supply Teacher for the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board, where she covered and taught classes from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Since Jocelyn was situated at one school, she felt that she was able to learn and adapt to the different teaching needs and styles of the children and how to make them feel comfortable with her. Jocelyn was also an after-school tutor at the elementary school which gave her another opportunity to support the improvement of students’ math skills, reading, writing, and vocabulary. Jocelyn wishes to continue working with children as it brings her happiness to feel that she is making a difference in the children’s lives.

ANGELA E-C.

Angela Erskine Cranston is an Ontario Certified Teacher, Child and Youth Practitioner, Fine Arts painter.

She grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. After finishing high school, Angela attended the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Preforming Arts where she completed a Diploma in Painting and Printmaking. She then attended the Mico University College where she completed a Diploma in teaching. Angela taught Visual Arts at the intermediate/senior division in Jamaica before moving to the Turks and Caicos Islands. While still in the Turks and Caicos Islands, Angela jumped at the opportunity when it came for her to teach in the primary/junior division. She taught grade 4 literacy for 4 years.

Through these experiences in and aboard, Angela developed a passion for teaching and working with special needs children. This propelled her to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care at the Humber College, Toronto. After receiving her Bachelors, she decided to go one step further to completing her Master’s in Education with a specialization in special education at the Walden University, Minnesota.

Presently, Angela works for the School Board. She supports the improvement of students with special needs as well as students in the general education classroom. She believes in engaging and building strong healthy relationships with children, youth, and their family.

In Angela’s spare time, she enjoys travelling and spending time with family. Angela also enjoys painting and exhibiting her artworks in galleries. She has shared in several young professional and young generation group exhibitions for Jamaican artists presenting works in Jamaica’s galleries. Angela’s most recent artworks is on display at the Beaux Art Gallery, Brampton.

 

 

KEIRA R.

Keira is an Ontario Certified Teacher who is qualified to teach Kindergarten through Grade 12. Keira graduated university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts with a Major in French Studies. Prior to completing a francophone program during her undergrad, she participated in the French Immersion program in elementary school and high school. In addition to this, Keira completed two University French Immersion month-long programs in Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan. Keira has tutored for 8 years, and has tutored students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in the French language. She hopes to share her love of French with others. Her goal is to build her students’ confidence in the French language.

Keira loves working with children and students. Before she became a teacher she instructed preschool programs at a community centre. As well, she is an Ontario Certified Gymnastics Coach and instructed gymnastics classes for students aged 3-11 for several years. Keira has a passion for teaching and learning. She tries to create a positive and supportive environment for students by encouraging her students to ask questions and by letting them know that it is okay to make mistakes while learning. Mistakes are expected, respected, inspected, and then corrected! Keira enjoys connecting with her students and learning about their interests and hobbies.

In her spare time, she enjoys reading, watching French films, painting and drawing, and spending time with her friends and family.

 

DANIEL C.

My name is Daniel. I am qualified to teach Grades K – 12. My teachable subject areas include the Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Law. I also hold additional qualifications in special education (I have my special education specialist), religion, and autism. I have taught a diverse range of subjects. I have experience working with students in the Moderate Communication Program and the Planning for Independence Program in the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board. I have both in-person and virtual teaching experience with special needs and mainstream students in multiple school boards. This includes the Halton Public, Halton Catholic, Peel Catholic, & the Hamilton – Wentworth Catholic District School Board. I have had IEP students with various learning needs in many of my online and in-person classes. I also have diverse teaching experience as I have worked with students across the GTA from grades K-12 through the publicly funded education system and private tutoring. I am now a permanent secondary teacher with the Hamilton – Wentworth Catholic District School Board. As a tutor, I am experienced in delivering customized learning plans designed to address each student’s needs. I strive to support students in developing self-confidence in their academic abilities, and work hard to improve their study habits with the goal of achieving academic success.
