HEATHER F.
Heather received her Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University in 2004, majoring in English and History at the Intermediate/Senior level. She recently completed a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies and she has both ELL Part One and TESOL certification to work with English Language Learners.
In 2004, Heather worked for the Toronto Board of Education before moving to London, England where she worked for two years. Heather taught across the curriculum in Key Stage 3 (Canadian equivalent of Grades 7-9), specializing in working with students with behavioural and academic issues.
After leaving London, she went to Mexico where she worked at the American School of Puerto Vallarta, a private school focused on university preparation. She was the Head of the English/Social Studies Department. Throughout her time at ASPV, Heather designed and delivered a number of course including Media Studies, Drama, and Reading Comprehension through Science Fiction. Heather was also instrumental in creating a course for Grade 11 that focused in large part on SAT preparation. As well as teaching AP English, she also worked as an adjunct professor for Colorado Christian University teaching an accredited course in English Literature.
Heather believes that all students are capable of achieving success, particularly with the right motivation and individualized encouragement. Every student is different and each student requires their own unique approach. She believes that tutoring provides the ideal opportunity to create a positive environment for students to develop both the self confidence to learn from their mistakes and the belief that they can achieve their goals.
