Lucía L.

Lucía L. was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. In Colombia, she attended an Italian immersion school for twelve years. She moved to Canada in 2014 and graduated from York University with a BFA in Dance. Since graduation, Lucía has worked as a professional dancer and teacher for over five years. Simultaneously she worked as a Student Recruiting Associate at The Bishop Strachan School, interviewing and assessing Junior School and Boarding School student applicants. At BSS, she developed strong relationships with incoming students and families and learned different teaching and learning methods from exceptional faculty. Lucía is a Master of Teaching (Primary/Junior) candidate at OISE, University of Toronto. She enjoys teaching Math, Spanish and Italian, supporting students studying skills and strategies. She is an enthusiastic and creative teacher passionate about building confidence in students learning.

 

Aubreyana R.

Aubreyana is currently in her final year pursuing her Master of Teaching at the University of Toronto. With a rich history of 15 years working with children, Aubreyana is passionate about fostering their growth and supporting them in their educational journeys. Her educational background includes an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Studies from the University of Guelph, providing her with a solid foundation in Early Childhood Education (ECE). Aubreyana’s experience spans a diverse range of learning abilities, beginning with her work in an Early Intervention Program and progressing to her role as a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE). Currently aspiring to become a Primary/Junior teacher, Aubreyana’s dedication to working with children extends beyond the classroom. Her commitment is evident through her volunteer work at the Hospital for Sick Children and with Behaviour Matters, a mental health program. Aubreyana’s teaching philosophy revolves around creating conceptual lessons, establishing strong rapport with learners, and adapting teaching methods to meet the unique needs of each student. Her approach is characterized by enthusiasm, adaptability, and creativity, qualities she believes define a great teacher. Outside of her professional pursuits, Aubreyana enjoys various hobbies, including walking her dog, engaging in artistic activities such as painting and sketching, immersing herself in reading, and maintaining an active lifestyle through running. Her diverse experiences and genuine passion for education make Aubreyana an ideal candidate for any tutoring program.

 

Gowsiga T.

In 2011, Gowsi earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Political Science from York University. The following year, she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Human Rights and Equity Studies from the same institution. Seeking to deepen her expertise in human rights advocacy, Gowsi pursued and completed a Master of Arts in Immigration and Settlement Studies at Ryerson University in 2013. In 2019, she furthered her education, obtaining a Master of Teaching (Intermediate/Senior Level) from the University of Toronto (OISE).

Post-OISE graduation, Gowsi embarked on her teaching journey with notable institutions including the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), The Bishop Strachan School, and the University of Toronto Schools. Guided by a teaching philosophy emphasizing the creation of a nurturing and positive learning environment, she prioritizes tailored instruction that caters to individual learner needs and styles.

Anna P.

Anna is currently in her second year of the master of teaching degree at OISE in the intermediate/senior division. She has completed her teacher’s college practicums in grade 10 science and grade 12 biology classrooms where she used differentiated instruction and culturally responsive pedagogy to engage a wide range of students. She completed her undergraduate degree at McMaster University where she earned an honours bachelor of science degree in biology. Anna has tutored students from elementary to high school in a range of math and science courses. In her spare time she enjoys running, playing soccer, and walking her dog Rufus.

 

Lucas P.

Lucas is a Certified Teacher with the Toronto Catholic District School Board after graduating from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education in the Intermediate/Senior division. Following graduation, Lucas continues to hone his skills as an educator teaching in the senior division in different high schools as he supports his student’s development in essay writing, critical thinking, citations and other learning skills. Lucas believes in and values the individuality of each student and strives to tailor his teaching and tutoring methods to best fit the student at hand.

For over 5 years Lucas has devoted his time working in camps with the City of Toronto and volunteering in schools within the TCDSB where he has learned how to create positive learning environments and identify the strengths and weaknesses of each learner. In his spare time, Lucas enjoys the outdoors either hiking in provincial parks or playing golf with friends and family.

Natasha T.

Natasha T. a distinguished alumna of the University of Waterloo, graduated with Honours in Science, majored in Joint Psychology with a minor in Bioinformatics. She is currently making significant contributions to the field as an ABA/ Behaviour therapist, concurrently working towards a Masters in ABA therapy. Natasha excels in the specialized domain of supporting students with learning disabilities and atypical learning profiles.

With a passion for education, Natasha has demonstrated experience and expertise in teaching a wide array of subjects, spanning science, math, english, geography, and history, across various grade levels. Her commitment to inclusive education and tailored instruction sets her apart, creating an impactful and supportive learning environment for her students.

Natasha’s academic background, coupled with her practical experience in ABA therapy, showcases her dedication to advancing the understanding and application of behavioral interventions. Beyond her professional pursuits, Natasha enjoys spending her leisure time walking her dog and engaging in movie nights with friends. Natasha’s multifaceted talents, academic achievements, and commitment to fostering inclusive education underscore her as a notable figure in the field of ABA therapy and education.

Jessica D.

Jessica has a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Sciences from the University of British Columbia, and is currently in her final year of clinical studies in the Master’s of Sciences in Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto.

John W.

John is an English teacher with a passion for literature and writing. John studied at the Legion of Christ College in Cheshire, CT, where he was the valedictorian of his graduating class. John’s teaching experience is diverse, including a role as a fifth-grade religion teacher at St. Anthony’s Parish in Prospect, CT. During his years in Connecticut, he tutored international students in English, Art history, Biology, Geometry, and ancient languages such as Koine Greek and Latin.

Currently, John teaches high school English literature and Creative Writing at Mary Mother of God School in Toronto. John brings a wide variety of practical experience to his teaching as well. He has contributed a number of literary articles to various publications and also worked as a journalist for The Catholic Register. John combines his experience and education to help his students get excited about writing, literature math, science and art. John’s teaching style is marked by joy and energy, and he seeks to help his students develop their interests along with a love for their studies. He is fluent in Spanish, which complements his academic interests and teaching.

 

Emma M.

Emma received her honours history degree from Queen’s University this year. She is currently working towards her Master of Teaching degree at University of Toronto. Before this, she gained experience teaching and assisting classrooms in various boards including TDSB. Emma recognizes the importance of providing students with individualized lessons and supports that suit their specific learning goals. One of Emma’s strengths is her ability to meet the child where they are by assessing what they already can do and developing a learning plan from there. Whether its dismantling ‘math anxiety’, fine-tuning reading and writing skills, or completing homework assignments, Emma can help young learners overcome any academic challenge by providing them with the tools they need to succeed.

Beyond learning, Emma enjoys travelling, listening to music, and trying new foods! She also loves doing crafts, piano, and camping.

 

 

Nevita S.

Nevita is a current teacher-candidate in the Master of Teaching program at UofT OISE in the Junior-Intermediate stream, with a Visual Arts teachable. She has a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from OCAD University, with a specialization in Life Studies and a minor in Drawing and Painting. She has experience assisting and teaching at youth afterschool arts programs and summer day camp. Having taught literacy, science, history and visual arts in her placements, Nevita has a well rounded and strong interest in all subjects. She values learning from the process, student-led inquiry, experiential education, building resiliency, fostering community, practicing mindfulness, ongoing teacher-learning and acknowledges there are many ways of knowing.
