Aidin T.

Aidin, a PhD candidate in Environmental Studies at York University, brings extensive teaching experience and a deep passion for education to Prep Academy Tutors. With a first PhD in political geography and a robust background in urban and regional planning, his interdisciplinary expertise spans a diverse range of social sciences. Aidin has taught courses at York University and the University of Toronto, including Urbanization in Developing Countries and Planning and Governing the Metropolis.
Aidin offers private tutorials in English and the social sciences, with a focus on geography, history, and politics for high school students. Committed to enhancing students’ writing and critical thinking abilities, he guides them in organizing and crafting well-structured, coherent essays, preparing them for future academic success at college and university levels. Aidin is an accomplished writer and researcher, with numerous publications in both English and Persian. His work has appeared in respected journals such as Global Iranian Studies Review, Radio Zamaneh, Cinema Iranica, Critique of Political Economy, and The Bullet. Aidin has also translated key political and philosophical works into Persian. He founded Space & Dialectics, the first online journal on critical urban theory and human geography in Farsi. Aidin’s commitment to emancipatory education and student advocacy is at the heart of his work, highlighted by his role as VP Community for York University Graduate Students’ Association. Aidin is an avid soccer player, enjoying the sport several times a week.

 

Silya S.

Silya holds a Master of Architecture from the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto, where she developed a strong analytical skill set and a love for problem-solving. With a background that emphasizes precision, critical thinking, and clear communication, Silya is well-equipped to help students excel in subjects like math, science, and English.

With experience as a guest critic and mentor at Daniels Design Discovery Camp, Silya has honed her teaching approach, emphasizing patience, adaptability, and a focus on helping students grasp complex concepts with ease. She believes that learning should be engaging, encouraging her students to ask questions and discover their potential through exploration and creativity.

Silya has tutored a range of high school subjects, particularly math, science, and English, and brings a structured yet flexible approach to each session. Her students appreciate her ability to simplify challenging material and make connections that deepen understanding, especially in areas requiring analytical and critical thinking skills.

In addition to her passion for education, Silya enjoys exploring new places, boxing, and field hockey, which she brings as examples to create real-world connections in her lessons. Silya strives to inspire students to succeed academically and develop a lifelong curiosity for learning.

 

Linda H.

Linda is a professor who has over ten years of experience teaching in universities, colleges and private language schools. Her forte is unpacking academic texts, videos, and lectures to ensure reading comprehension through summation, and pronunciation through phonetics and phonology. She ensures her students succeed in her courses as well as helps them with the many skill sets that they need to excel in university. Currently, she is very interested and has become well-versed in the benefits of integrating and enhancing the class curriculum with technology. She holds a Master’s degree in Education focusing on Second Language Education from OISE, a Master’s degree in English and a partial PhD in English, as well as being TESL Ontario certified.

 

Dylan S.

Dylan is a dedicated tutor with a Bachelor’s degree in Computing, specializing in Software Engineering. He has over three years of experience helping students succeed in a wide range of subjects, including Math, Science, and Computer Science. With a strong academic background and hands-on experience, Dylan is well-equipped to guide students through challenging concepts and foster a deeper understanding of each subject.

In addition to his private tutoring work, Dylan has also contributed his expertise at a Robotics Learning Center, where he worked with students of varying ages and skill levels, teaching complex topics in robotics and computer science. This experience has helped him develop a unique ability to break down technical concepts into easy-to-understand lessons that engage and empower students.

Maryam B.

Maryam is a third-year honors undergraduate student majoring in biochemistry at York University. She possesses both a strong foundation in STEM subjects and an eye for the arts. Maryam specializes in subjects including Mathematics, Science, Biology, Chemistry, French, English, History and Social Studies. Before she transferred to York University, Maryam earned first place among her peers in Calculus at the American University of Sharjah, UAE. Having lived in 14 international cities, and 6 countries, and traveled to 20+ countries, Maryam has become a vibrant mosaic of so many mesmerizing cultures. Moreover, she is fluent in 3 languages: English, French, and Arabic. Working as both a swim instructor and tutor for over 11 years now, Maryam excels at conveying knowledge in an engaging and digestible way. She is an approachable and patient educator, prioritizing the student’s engagement and understanding. Learning is an uncomfortable experience, and Maryam recognizes that students may feel afraid or intimidated. So she makes sure to accommodate students as best as possible while still challenging them and improving their abilities. Overall, Maryam is both a life-long learner and educator who is eager to push students to achieve their full academic potential and grow a newfound passion for knowledge.

Hi there! I’m Jacob. I’ve been a tutor for the last 4 years teaching Math, Physics and Computer Science. As a part of my engineering career, I’ve gotten hands-on experience in these subjects by building flight simulators at CAE. Loridy F.

Loridy is a passionate second-year Master’s student specializing in child education for the primary and junior division, while also working towards her Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) designation. Being the recipient of three scholarships, Loridy attained her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Education with high distinction. In her teaching, she adopts a student-centred approach that pays close attention to individual interests, needs, and diversity.

Known for her outgoing and friendly demeanour, Loridy has four years of tutoring experience, specializing in working with children aged 6 to 12, including English Language Learners (ELL) and newcomers to Canada. She has taught English, math, science, and social studies in classroom settings, always striving to make learning fun and engaging for her students.

Her experiences as a camp counsellor and study group leader have deepened her understanding of the importance of developing healthy study habits and fostering a growth mindset—principles that are reflected in her teaching practice. Loridy builds strong rapport with her students, allowing her to better understand their needs and interests.

In addition to her academic pursuits, she is an avid lover of the arts, she participates in dance and music and plays three musical instruments. A devoted pet lover, Loridy brings warmth and compassion to everything she does, inspiring those around her to embrace learning with joy.

 

 

Shalom G.

Shalom is an Applied Mathematics and Engineering graduate from Queen’s University. A dedicated tutor, Shalom has extensive experience in assisting students with advanced courses like calculus and linear algebra. He served as a Calculus/Linear Algebra Tutor at the Four Directions Indigenous Student Centre, where he provided personalized, one-on-one support to enhance students’ understanding of core mathematical concepts. His patient, goal-oriented approach helps students achieve success in challenging courses.
In addition to tutoring, Shalom has worked as a Teaching Assistant where he guided students through Digital Systems labs and instructed calculus tutorials. His teaching background is complemented by a strong academic record, being named a Dean’s Scholar and receiving multiple academic awards.

Vasiljka M.

Vasiljka (Vasa) is a dedicated 5th-year student at McMaster University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behaviour, with a minor in Sociology. After graduation, Vasiljka plans to continue her commitment to supporting and empowering children by pursuing a Master’s in Counseling. Her passion for the French language began early in her education. She started in a French immersion program in kindergarten and continued through the French extended program in high school. Throughout her university years, Vasiljka gained practical experience by tutoring French to her peers and family friends. She is dedicated to helping others succeed and reach their full potential in their language learning journeys. Vasiljka personalizes her lessons to accommodate each student’s unique learning styles and needs, fostering a supportive environment that encourages confidence. Her academic background provides her with valuable insights into child development and effective teaching strategies, making her an excellent tutor for learners of all ages. Jennifer is an OCT qualified Primary/ Junior teacher with 21 years of teaching experience with the Toronto District School Board. She has spent the majority of her career teaching primary students in all subject areas and currently teaches Grade 2 and 3. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at York University and her teaching degree at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Additionally she has obtained many additional qualifications including Special Education and Reading to name a few. Jennifer believes that each and every student is unique and has the potential to succeed. Her teaching philosophy centres on the idea that all students can learn, and it is her goal to unlock their abilities through personalized and engaging instruction. She tailors her approach to each student’s learning style, strengths, and areas for growth, ensuring that lessons are both effective and engaging. She strives to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment for all students, where they feel confident to ask questions, explore new ideas, and take on challenges.
