Jessica Eaton has been a math educator for the last 16 years. She is a certified math teacher with a Masters in Education from University of California San Diego who taught middle and high school math for 10 years, then left the classroom in 2021 to start private tutoring to get the chance to work with students one on one. She is very passionate about math education, and loves getting the opportunity to help students see that math can be easy and fun, not scary and difficult like many people assume it is. She has a laid back, easygoing approach to math that focuses on helping students see their own math capabilities and improving their confidence in their math skills. She focuses on creating a comfortable environment for students to ask their questions and work through their challenges, and on helping students understand the “why” behind what they’re learning and doing to encourage deeper understanding and retention. Johanna is an experienced educator, technology professional, and dedicated mentor with a passion for helping students build confidence and achieve academic success. She currently serves as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Technology teacher with Wake County Public Schools and has experience teaching high school mathematics, providing individualized tutoring, and developing engaging learning experiences for students with diverse learning needs. Johanna’s teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, overcoming challenges, and celebrating their progress.
Before transitioning into education, Johanna built a successful career spanning more than two decades in engineering, telecommunications, project management, healthcare, and clinical research. Her professional experience allows her to connect classroom concepts to real-world applications while helping students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and technology skills that prepare them for future success. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and has continued expanding her expertise through professional development in education, technology, and project management.
In addition to classroom teaching, Johanna has extensive experience tutoring middle and high school students in mathematics, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Math II. She believes every student can succeed with the right combination of patience, personalized instruction, and consistent encouragement. Her tutoring sessions are designed to strengthen foundational skills, improve confidence, and help students become independent learners rather than simply memorize procedures.
Outside of teaching, Johanna is an entrepreneur, swim instructor, author, and foster parent who enjoys creating educational resources, mentoring young people, and giving back to her community. Nicole J.
Nicole is a certified special education teacher with a Master’s degree in Special
Education and more than nine years of experience supporting students with a wide range of learning needs. She specializes in helping students strengthen reading, writing, math, executive functioning, organization, study skills, and confidence as learners. With extensive experience working with students with ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and other exceptionalities, Nicole creates individualized lessons that build on each student’s strengths while making learning engaging and meaningful. She believes every child can succeed when they are taught in a way that makes sense to them and is passionate about helping students develop the confidence, independence, and problem-solving skills they need both in and out of the classroom. Outside of teaching, Nicole is an avid reader, enjoys creative hobbies like knitting and baking, and loves spending time with her two energetic dogs, who happily remind her that learning isn’t the only thing that takes patience and consistency.
Jett W.
Jett is a graduate of Duke University where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and her teaching certificate for grades 7-12. While at Duke, Jett discovered a love for theatre, so she continued her studies at New York University, earning a Masters of Fine Arts in Dramatic Writing. Through the years, she has had many plays produced and published. Teaching, however, stilled called. Returning back to North Carolina, she took a position at Durham’s Northern High School in the English department. Jett taught in public school for ten years then came home to raise her four children. She homeschooled all four children, teaching self-designed English classes for many homeschool families along the way. Jett has worked with all ages in multiple other capacities–as nursery school worker, tutor, creative writing teacher, stage director, and Sunday school teacher. She is passionate about teaching students to think deeply and to express themselves through all forms of writing. For Jett, every student is a unique, marvelous individual with great possibilities.
Raluca B.
Raluca is an experienced language educator and tutor with more than 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics in 2002, with a major in English and German and a minor in Italian, providing her with a strong academic foundation in language acquisition, communication, and cultural studies. A native Romanian speaker, she is also fluent in English, German, and Italian, bringing both linguistic expertise and cultural insight to her teaching. Raluca specializes in English, Romanian, German, and Italian instruction, helping students of all ages build confidence in communication, reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, and comprehension. She provides personalized one-on-one lessons tailored to each student’s goals, whether they are preparing for travel, advancing their careers, reconnecting with their heritage, improving academic performance, or developing conversational fluency. Her patient and supportive teaching style creates an engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and making meaningful progress. In addition to language instruction, she has extensive experience helping elementary and middle school students strengthen reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. Nicholas B.
Nicholas is a tutor and creative writer who specializes in English (literature, grammar, and creative writing). He has experience tutoring, teaching, and lesson planning, and recently completed a certificate course for teaching English to learners of other languages. Nick believes in the importance of meeting students where they are, encouraging a passion for learning, and connecting interests with education. He lives in Apex with his wise and distinguished cat Tinsel. His interests include fiction, animals (both extant and extinct), photography, history, and cooking. He wants to travel more in the future (his current obsession is seeing wombats in the wild— from a respectful distance).

Carly is an experienced educator with more than 15 years of teaching experience. A graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, she has taught students at every grade level, from Middle and High school to Elementary school. After beginning her career in Austin, Texas, Carly and her family moved to Morrisville, where she continued teaching at the elementary level.
Carly loves helping students build confidence and discover that learning can be fun. She has privately tutored for many families over the years and enjoys creating a positive, encouraging environment where every child can thrive.
When she’s not teaching, Carly enjoys live music, beach days with her family, and any chance to swim in the ocean. She’s happiest with her toes in the sand and thinking of what the next school year will bring!

Kellie Whitaker is an experienced and engaging educator with 22 years of teaching experience and a passion for helping students grow both academically and personally. Originally from Oregon but proud to call North Carolina home, Kellie holds a B.A. in Psychology and a master’s degree in Elementary Education. Most of her career has been spent teaching 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students, where she developed a reputation for building strong relationships and creating a positive, supportive learning environment. She also took a memorable three-year leap of faith into private school education, teaching Spanish and Psychology, an experience that was both challenging and rewarding. Known for her great sense of humor, Kellie connects easily with students and believes that learning is most effective when children feel valued, understood, and encouraged. Outside of teaching, she enjoys spending time at the beach, working out at the gym, attending live music events, and making memories with her children and grandson.
Julia T.
Julia is a recent graduate student and experienced educator who is kind, passionate and motivated in helping all students achieve their educational goals. She is originally from Michigan where she completed her BA in Arts and Humanities and Global History from Michigan State University and her MA in history from Eastern Michigan University. Before moving to North Carolina, she was an academic advisor, helping students of all ages navigate the transition into collegiate level studies, and a Museum Assistant where she focused on engaging and educating the local community with their history and stories. She currently lives in Chapel Hill, where she has been working with University of North Carolina students in and outside of classrooms for two years. Her previous research work in her academic life focused on Polish women’s roles during the Second World War, and she is adept and willing to tutor students of all ages in history, the writing process, SAT and ACT prep, and college admissions. As someone who considers herself a lifelong learner and what her mom jokes is a “professional student,” she understands both the challenges and rewards of working towards ones educational journey. She lives with her husband and cat, and in her spare time enjoys baking, back country camping, reading the latest fantasy book, and Detroit Lions football.
