KRISHNA A.
Krishna is an engineer with a deep interest in developing cost-effective, durable, and globally scalable housing technologies. Currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia, his research focuses on the use of 3D concrete printing for innovative and sustainable housing construction. Alongside his academic and engineering pursuits, Krishna is equally passionate about teaching and tutoring. He actively seeks out and embraces opportunities to sharpen his instructional skills and engage with students of all levels. With experience ranging from high school to undergraduate and graduate students, Krishna has taught a broad spectrum of subjects. His core teaching areas include English, Science, Mathematics (with particular expertise in Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra), Physics, and Engineering Mechanics. In addition, he prepares students for competitive academic challenges such as AP, IB, and Euclid-level exams. YINI L.
Yini Liu is a highly accomplished educator with over seven years of international teaching experience in China. Originally from Southern China, she moved to Toronto in 2010 and pursued an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry – Biomedical Research at McMaster University. Graduating at the top of her class, she received multiple prestigious accolades, including the National Canadian Chemistry Merit Award. Dedicated to professional growth, Yini earned her IB Certificate in Teaching and Learning while teaching in China and participated in an AP Chemistry workshop by the College Board, further enhancing her expertise in advanced science education.
Yini’s impact as an educator is evident in her students’ outstanding achievements. In 2022, her AP Chemistry students achieved a success rate 5.5 times higher than the international average, and one of her students earned the Global Gold Award for the Canadian Chemistry Contest. Her ability to inspire and challenge students has made her a sought-after mentor in the field. Currently, Yini is furthering her dedication to education by completing her Master of Teaching at the University of Toronto, reinforcing her commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence.
Victoria W.
Victoria is a dynamic and creative teacher with years experience working with Prep Academy. She has experience in the classroom with every grade from Kindergarten to Grade 9 including French Immersion, Extended French, and Core French. Her specialities include working with French learners, teaching students to read, strengthening reading, writing, and math skills while making learning fun. Victoria’s interests include sustainability, community growth, global initiatives, volunteering, well-being, and empowering others. Victoria’s teaching pedagogy is that each child is unique and thus must have an interesting educational environment that fosters physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and such an environment allows students to achieve their goals. She desires to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. She is also creative with a high interest in sports and games which she uses in creating a fun and encouraging learning environment.
CALEB E.
Caleb holds an Honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto, with majors in Biology and Environmental Science. He also possesses an Educational Support certificate from Sheridan College, equipping him with the skills to effectively assist students across diverse levels and learning challenges.
Caleb’s expertise spans the sciences, mathematics, and multiple languages, including Spanish. His ability to teach Spanish adds a valuable dimension to his skill set, allowing him to connect with students seeking to enhance their language proficiency. His patient, empathetic, and relatable approach to teaching ensures students feel supported and motivated in their learning journey.
With extensive experience as both a tutor and an instructor, Caleb has worked in various settings, including one-on-one, group, in-person, and virtual formats. His most recent role involved delivering ESL courses alongside Science and Math instruction to international students, demonstrating his versatility and cultural adaptability. DANIEL K.
Daniel Kazambu is a dedicated French tutor with a strong background in pedagogy, specializing in effective teaching strategies for students of all ages and skill levels. Filip Z.
Filip is a BC Certified Teacher who graduated from the University of Calgary in 2017 with a Concurrent Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and Education with distinction. He also studied Drama abroad in New York for a year during his educational career at the U of C. Since graduation, Filip has taught high school English and Drama at St. John’s – he was actually the one who started the Drama program from scratch at that school. Currently, Filip is working as a Teacher on Call, covering all subjects from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, more often being called in to teach K-Grade 7.
Separate from teaching, other experience with kids includes working as a superhero at children’s birthday parties pre-COVID. He is also an actor and a co-founder of a successful sketch comedy group in Vancouver. Filip is really good with people, in and out of the workplace. He puts a lot of emphasis on forming connections with the people in his life, whether it is his friends, family, or students he teaches. He is a firm believer of giving every student the attention they deserve to set themselves up for success.
Binita T.
Binita is a dedicated educator with 13 years of experience specializing in high school physics and mathematics. Armed with a Master’s degree in Physics and a Bachelor’s in Education, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the classroom. Coming from a family of teachers, Binita always knew education was her calling. Throughout her career, she has taught over 1,000 students and published a research paper in physics, demonstrating her commitment to her field and continuous professional growth.
Binita’s teaching philosophy centers on creating strong bonds with her students and bridging learning gaps to help each one excel. She believes in bringing real-world relevance to her lessons, making complex concepts accessible and engaging. In her spare time, Binita’s patience – a virtue honed through years of teaching – is put to the ultimate test by her energetic 4-year-old. This personal experience enhances her understanding of the learning process and the importance of adapting teaching methods to individual needs, further enriching her approach to education.
Brian J.
Brian is a UBC Engineering student who has a great understanding of the BC curriculum. He took an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in grades 11 and 12.
He ran clubs that required him to teach Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Brian is confident in his Mathematics. He won the Pascal and Cayley Math Contests awards medals and several papers of distinction. However, it is important to note that Brian’s target audience is not limited to high school students. Brian peer tutored in middle school. He has experience teaching mathematics to grades 6 to 8 as well. Brian can teach Chemistry as well and achieved the highest score for the Chemistry Avogadro Exam in his school. He can cover a wide range of topics in greater depth, including Stoichiometry, Molecular Structure & Bonding, Periodicity, Acids and Bases, Electrochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Equilibrium, Chemical Kinetics, Thermodynamics, and more. Brian’s target audience for Chemistry is students in grades 9 to 12.
Brian is capable of teaching Physics. He won fourth place in Quizzics, held during the Physics Olympics on March 9th, 2024. The list of topics he can teach includes Kinematics, Dynamics, Energy, Momentum, Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, Simple Harmonic Motion, Wave Phenomena, and more. Brian’s target audience for Physics is students in grades 9 to 12.
Marianne C.
Marianne Campbell is a certified teacher with seven years of elementary teaching experience and nine years of tutoring experience. She holds a BA in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education from UBCO, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Mathematics Education from Queen’s University, and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville.
Marianne supports students in Grades 3–9 in math and Grades 3–12 in English, reading, writing, and executive functioning. Her experience includes a two-year teaching residency focused on math and English with the Vernon School District, teaching with the Vancouver School Board, arts-integrated and project-based learning at Studio9, and individualized support as a learning resource teacher.
Marianne works with students with a range of academic strengths and learning needs, including neurodivergent and gifted learners. Using differentiated instruction and a warm, strengths-based approach, she tailors learning to each student’s needs and interests. She helps students strengthen academic skills, develop effective strategies for organization and independent learning, and build confidence in their abilities.
Shannon B.
Shannon has dedicated 11 years to teaching mathematics in secondary schools. Originally from the United States, she moved to Australia during her teenage years, where she pursued her education with enthusiasm. Shannon completed a combined Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics—simply for the joy of it—and philosophy—because she had the opportunity. Her passion for philosophy led her to further her studies, culminating in a Master’s Degree. She then rounded out her formal education by earning a Graduate Diploma of Education in Secondary Mathematics Teaching.
Shannon views mathematics as a powerful lens through which to understand the world, and her teaching philosophy revolves around helping students access this perspective. Her engaging approach not only demystifies mathematical concepts but also inspires a love for the subject. Outside of her professional life, Shannon has a playful side; she often finds herself humming catchy tunes from the ’90s and enjoys playing the “ten game” with bus numbers during her commutes. She also has plans to put her new pair of jogging shoes to good use, reflecting her belief in maintaining a balanced and active lifestyle. Through her multifaceted interests, Shannon embodies a vibrant blend of intellect and creativity, making her a dynamic presence both in and out of the classroom.
