FAQs
When should I start working with a college consultant?
The earlier students engage with a college counselor, the more strategic their path can be. We recommend starting no later than sophomore year so that course selection, extracurricular activities, and summer experiences can all be intentionally aligned with a student’s goals. For sophomores, our advisor Karen helps develop a long-range plan that connects academic interests with the right activities and prepares students for a competitive applicant profile.
Juniors who are just beginning the process can still benefit enormously — we guide them through every step, from building a balanced college list to submitting polished applications. Even if your student is approaching senior year, it is never too late to reach out; we will meet them exactly where they are.
What’s included in a college consulting package?
Our packages are tailored to the student’s grade level and individual needs.
For juniors, services typically include: developing a personalized application strategy and timeline; building a balanced, realistic college list; choosing a major; refining extracurricular and summer activities; reviewing all college applications and supplements in full before submission; tracking deadlines; evaluating offers of admission; and coordinating an SAT/ACT preparation plan in collaboration with our test prep teachers.
For sophomores, packages focus on creating a strategic multi-year plan, recommending the right courses and activities, exploring potential majors through interest assessment, and sourcing competitive summer opportunities.
All packages center on one-on-one guidance from Karen, whose two decades of HR, campus recruiting, and admissions consulting experience ensures every student receives truly individualized attention. Contact us to discuss the package that best fits your student’s timeline and goals.
Do you help with financial aid strategy?
Evaluating financial aid is an important part of the college decision process, and we incorporate it into our consulting work. When students receive offers of admission, Karen helps families compare and evaluate financial aid packages as part of the overall admissions evaluation — including understanding the full cost of attendance and comparing merit-based and need-based aid across schools so students choose a college that is the right fit academically, personally, and financially.
For families who want more in-depth financial aid planning discussion, we are happy to talk through how this fits into your consulting package. Reach us at 914.303.7661 or via our contact page.
