Rebecca H.

Rebecca H. is currently completing the Ontario Certified Teacher Program in the Master of Teaching Program (Primary/Junior Division) at OISE, University of Toronto. She also holds a Master of Education in Administration and Leadership from Brock University.
With over five years of experience teaching and working in Ontario’s public and private elementary and high schools, such as TDSB, YCDSB and TCDSB, Rebecca is committed to creating inclusive classrooms where every student feels valued and supported. She specializes in Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, ensuring her teaching reflects and respects the diverse cultural backgrounds of her students. Skilled in differentiated instruction, Rebecca tailors her lessons to meet the needs of all learners, making education accessible and engaging.

Rita J.

Rita has a strong academic background and extensive experience in education. With a Bachelor’s degree in Life Science and over five years of experience in tutoring, Rita has a passion for empowering students to reach their academic potential.

Specializing in teaching Mandarin, Grades 2 to 10 Science and Math and Grade 11 Functions, Rita combines expertise in subject matter with a personalized approach to instruction. She aims to make challenging concepts more accessible and help students build confidence in their abilities.

Rita has a proven track record of success, guiding students to improve their grades and develop critical problem-solving skills. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes patience, creativity, and adapting to each student’s unique learning styles. In addition to academic instruction, Rita equips students with strategies for effective studying and independent learning, ensuring long-term success.

Fluent in both English and Mandarin, Rita is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds. Jacqueline B.

Jacqueline B. is an Ontario Certified Teacher with over 10 years of experience in education, having worked with students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 8. She currently teaches in a Kindergarten classroom within the York Region District School Board. Jacquie’s teaching and tutoring are guided by the Ontario Elementary School curriculum expectations, ensuring that each lesson is aligned with the province’s educational standards.

Having previously worked as an elementary remedial reading tutor, Jacquie possesses a deep understanding of various reading programs offered across Ontario. Her approach prioritizes the well-being of her students, fostering an environment where they can thrive. Many of her students have demonstrated significant growth, increased understanding, and boosted confidence as a result of her dedicated support.

MELISSA T.

Melissa is an Ontario Certified Teacher with qualifications in the Primary-Junior division and experience working with high school students. She completed her undergraduate degree at York University and earned her Bachelor of Education at Lakehead University.

Melissa has worked extensively with students across different age groups, including elementary and secondary school, fostering their learning and helping them achieve academic success. She has experience conducting EQAO assessments, writing report cards, and supporting students’ literacy and numeracy development.

With a passion for education and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment, Melissa believes in building strong relationships with her students to meet their individual needs. She takes pride in encouraging her students to develop confidence and a love for learning.

ELECTRA W.

Electra is an Occasional Teacher with the Toronto District School Board and Durham District School Board. She holds a Master of Arts in Child Study and Education from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies, with a minor in English, from Toronto Metropolitan University. Her teaching experience spans across primary and junior classrooms.

Electra has also served as a Teacher Professional Development Specialist with the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Engineering, where she led STEM-focused professional learning for educators. She has also held management and instructional roles with Engineering Outreach.

Electra brings expertise in curriculum, pedagogy, and evidence-based teaching practices. Her practice is grounded in culturally responsive and equitable education, with a particular focus on supporting students with exceptionalities through strength-based, student-centred approaches that recognize the needs, strengths, and experiences of the whole child.

SARAH R.

Sarah is currently a student at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in the Masters of Teaching program. She has a particular interest in mathematics education and a consciousness of math anxiety and shame within the math classroom, as she is currently working on research on math anxiety in BIPOC students. Sarah truly believes that every student is capable of learning any subject and believes in the importance of building students’ confidence. So, she focuses on connecting with who students are to teach them in a way that works for them.

Before coming to OISE, Sarah taught dance and gymnastics to kids aged 4-12 in a summer camp setting. In practicum experiences, Sarah taught in a grade 5-6 gifted classroom, a grade 7-8 literacy, history, and art classroom and a grade 8 science classroom, with a concentrated focus on math skills within science. With these different age groups and experiences, Sarah has learned the needs of different age groups and is well-equipped at adapting to these different needs. In the future, she hopes to use what she has learned to teach in a junior or intermediate level classroom setting (grades 4-10).

In her personal life, she enjoys baking, watching movies, and seeing live music. She also is active in the UofT community as a Varsity Blues cheerleader.

Mia F.

Mia has a Bachelor of Education degree from McGill University.

She has worked for one year as a teacher at St. George’s Elementary School and is currently in her second year of teaching at Solomon Schechter Academy.

Her specialties include English and Math for students at the elementary level. In addition, she has worked as a student teacher at Lower Canada College and Akiva where she supported the teacher’s objectives, planned, prepared and implemented original lessons and activities.

Mia believes that there is not a “one size fits all” approach when it comes to teaching would like her students to feel welcome and safe from judgment. She understands the need for differentiation and always tries to integrate multiple learning styles and techniques in her teaching.

Orla R.

Orla is a recent graduate of Queen’s University, holding a dual degree in Global Development Studies and Concurrent Education, specializing in Primary/Junior education with a focus on supporting at-risk students. Currently, Orla works as an Occasional Teacher with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, where she is currently in a Long-Term Occasional Assignment within the Education Community Partnership Program. In this role, Orla supports students with exceptionalities who require specialized programming due to behavioural challenges, severe mental health issues, and health concerns that prevent them from being in a mainstream classroom.

Certified by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), Orla has significant experience working with Student’s from Kindergarten to Grade 12 students from diverse backgrounds. She is proficient in teaching all subjects at the Grade 1-6 levels and is committed to fostering inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments where all students feel respected and empowered. Orla takes a holistic approach to education, focusing on her students’ academic, emotional, physical, and social development to help them navigate challenges and achieve their full potential. Through Orla’s experiences as a student teacher at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. In the Bloorview School in a grade 1 classroom in the Integrated Education and Therapy (IET) Program Orla found her passion for working with Children with Disabilities in a Hospital Setting, so Orla has decided since finishing her Bachelors of Education she is going to apply for her Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy for September 2025! Outside of the classroom you can find Orla cooking, traveling, walking her dogs Murphy and Theo, working out/running, and spending quality time with her family!
