Ivana D.

Ivana has a plethora of teaching experience in schools across the Toronto District School Board from Kindergarten to Grade 8. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Toronto, an Early Childhood Education diploma from George Brown College, and her Bachelor of Education from York University.

Gilbert C.

Gilbert is a future I/S (mathematics and general science) educator and currently completing BEd at York University’s Education program. His training emphasizes curriculum development, assessment, and inclusive instructional practices aligned with Ontario curriculum expectations.

Through his academic coursework and classroom experiences, Gilbert has developed a strong interest in student-centred learning, problem-based instruction, and building positive classroom communities. He values clear communication, thoughtful lesson design, and helping students develop confidence in their mathematical thinking. His approach to teaching is grounded in accessibility, curiosity, and real-world application.

Gilbert also brings experience with STEM-related projects like robotics mentorship, which inform his teaching practice and allow him to connect abstract concepts to practical contexts. Outside of teaching, Gilbert is often collecting pokemon cards and exploring Toronto.

Abrar M.

Abrar M. is a teacher candidate at York University, completing a Concurrent Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Intermediate and Senior French as a Second Language and Social Sciences. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in French Studies, which provides a strong foundation in French language, culture, and pedagogy. French is his primary teachable, with experience in Core French and French Immersion settings.

Abrar has several years of experience working with students through tutoring and practicum placements with the Toronto District School Board. His teaching approach is practical and student centred, with a focus on clear expectations, relationship building, and creating classrooms where students feel comfortable participating and taking risks in French. He plans lessons aligned with Ontario curriculum expectations, adapts instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and uses assessment practices consistent with Growing Success.

Outside the classroom, Abrar enjoys reading a wide range of books, particularly fiction and stories from different cultures. He also enjoys weightlifting, training in Muay Thai, and travelling, and values meeting people from different backgrounds.

Elias A.

Elias A. graduated from Columbia University with an MA in Russian & Eastern European Studies in 2025 and from University of Oxford in 2017 with a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. He worked as an SAT prep teacher and tutor for AP US History, AP World History, and AP Literature in DC and Maryland from 2018 to 2019. Elias served as a Peace Corps TEFL Volunteer in Kosovo from 2019-2020 and from 2022-2023, teaching English to K-12 students. In 2020 and 2021 he worked as a tutor in Oregon for elementary and middle school students, tutoring English, reading comprehension, writing, math, and coding. In 2021 Elias taught English and critical thinking skills to students in Kosovo virtually in the Peace Corps Virtual Service Pilot Program. He currently works as a tutor for middle and high school students. In his free time Elias enjoys playing basketball, ping pong, and tennis.

Nassi R.

Nassi is an experienced and dedicated high school teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience at the Toronto District School Board. She specializes in Mathematics (Grades 9–12), Science (Grades 9–10), and Physics (Grades 11–12), helping students develop a strong foundation in both concepts and problem-solving.
With a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a passion for education, Nassi combines technical expertise with a clear, supportive teaching style. She is committed to making complex concepts accessible, empowering students to build confidence, strengthen critical thinking skills, and achieve lasting academic success.
Throughout her career, Nassi has worked with students of diverse learning styles and abilities, providing individualized support for homework, test and exam preparation, and overall conceptual understanding. Her student-centered approach encourages learners not only to improve their grades but also to develop a genuine appreciation for mathematics, science, and physics.
Outside the classroom, Nassi enjoys spending time with her family, baking, watching movies, hiking, and exploring non-fiction books on psychology and sociology.

Raiyan C.

Raiyan has a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo. Previously, he completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto Mississauga with a Specialist in Bioinformatics, and Major in Computer Science. He has taught mathematics and computer science to undergraduates across the University of Toronto and Waterloo for over 5 years. Subjects he taught include differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, groups and symmetries, introductory software engineering, theory of computation, and algorithm design and analysis. In his spare time, Raiyan enjoys hiking and playing basketball.

Samantha L.

Hi there! My name is Samantha, and I am a teacher with the Toronto District School Board. I currently teach in a Junior Autism Intensive classroom and am qualified to teach students from Kindergarten to Grade 8.

I hold a diploma and degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Bachelor of Education from York University. I also have additional qualifications in Reading, Mathematics, ESL, Special Education, and Physical Education.

My teaching philosophy is collaborative and strength-based, with a focus on building confidence and supporting each student’s individual needs. I am fluent in English and Cantonese.

Sylvie R.

Sylvie is a graduate of Ottawa University with a B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry as well as completing her B. Ed. with specialties in mathematics and chemistry at this institution. She has taught secondary mathematics and sciences and was the Student Success Leader for 25 years. She is now a pedagogical coach at the Consortium Centre Jules Léger (CCJL) to help deaf, blind and deaf blind students achieve their goals by helping their teachers with different projects and is also working with teachers of students with severe learning disabilities to develop their mathematical skills. Her passion is helping students achieve their highest potential as well as helping them develop and achieve their individual learning goals. Sylvie is perfectly bilingual and has been tutoring students from grades 7 to 12 in all levels of mathematics and sciences (biology, physics or chemistry). She has also worked in developing practical strategies in evaluating student progress through Growing Success with the Ministry in mathematics and by integrating strategies from Dr Anne Davis’s Connect to Learning workshops. Sylvie is patient and understanding and loves working with young people to help them add strategies to their repertoire and achieve their goals.

Ayshan S.

Hello, my name is Ayshan, and I am passionate about helping students succeed in math and physics. With over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I have worked with students at middle school, high school, and early university levels, supporting a wide range of learning needs and academic goals.

I specialize in teaching mathematics and physics in a clear, structured, and student-centered way, focusing on building strong fundamentals and confident problem-solving skills. I believe every student learns differently, and I tailor each lesson to the student’s pace, strengths, and learning style. Families and students often describe me as patient, approachable, and encouraging, especially when explaining challenging concepts step by step.

In addition to my long-term experience teaching math and physics, I have supported science and engineering courses at York University, including Dynamics, Vibration, Mechanics of Materials, and laboratory courses, which has strengthened my ability to connect math and physics concepts to real-world applications. Setare S.

Setare is an experienced mathematics tutor with eight years of one-on-one and small-group teaching across all grade levels. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics and Mathematics from University of Toronto and will begin her PhD in Biomedical Engineering in Fall. With a strong academic foundation in STEM, Setare helps students not only understand the material, but also develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative approaches to learning.

She has worked with students from Grades 1 through 12, tailoring her teaching to each student’s needs, learning style, and pace. Setare has experience supporting students with ADD, ADHD, and autism, and is deeply committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes.

Setare’s teaching philosophy is rooted in making challenging topics feel less intimidating and more enjoyable. She focuses on helping students recognize their strengths, build confidence, and reduce academic anxiety, believing that meaningful learning happens when students feel understood and capable.
