One-on-One Tutoring in Vancouver
It can be challenging for teachers in the classroom to give every student the attention they need to succeed. Fortunately, Prep Academy Tutors provides at-home and online one-on-one tutoring in Vancouver.
By bringing education into your home, our tutors can better explain course material and revisit challenging subject matter to fill in any gaps in your child’s knowledge.
Our educators work one-one-one with students to make a connection, better understand the student’s individual educational needs, and accommodate accordingly with a customized education plan that is unique to the student.
Instead of acting like a teacher at the front of the classroom, our tutors act more like a “smart friend” who can reiterate source material and explain subject matter in a way that is easy to understand.
Our tutors create a safe, low-pressure educational environment where students feel like they can learn and develop comprehension at their own pace.
Semi-Private Tutoring
Prep Academy Tutors provides semi-private tutoring in Vancouver so that students can benefit from the magic that happens when you put two heads together.

Group Tutoring Sessions
Prep Academy Tutors offers group tutoring in Vancouver for groups of 3-6 students. While group tutoring does not provide the same personalization as one-on-one tutoring, it makes up for this with the energy, camaraderie, and collaboration that comes with group learning.
In group tutoring, students can come together to work as a team, brainstorm, bounce ideas off one another, and provide each other with the support and encouragement to confidently set and reach academic goals.

Dustin’s extensive experience with children of varying abilities has emphasized the importance of personalized support and tailored lessons to each child’s unique strengths and challenges. Dustin prioritizes empathy, patience, and flexibility in addressing diverse learning needs effectively. When Dustin’s not guiding students through the intricacies of learning, you might find him devouring comfort food, swapping tales with friends, or on the beach playing volleyball. Otherwise, he’s likely curled up at home with a stack of tear-jerker novels, tissues at the ready. He insists it’s just allergies, but we suspect it’s the heartwarming endings that get to him.

Shannon has dedicated 11 years to teaching mathematics in secondary schools. Originally from the United States, she moved to Australia during her teenage years, where she pursued her education with enthusiasm. Shannon completed a combined Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics—simply for the joy of it—and philosophy—because she had the opportunity. Shannon views mathematics as a powerful lens through which to understand the world, and her teaching philosophy revolves around helping students access this perspective. Her engaging approach not only demystifies mathematical concepts but also inspires a love for the subject. Outside of her professional life, Shannon has a playful side; she often finds herself humming catchy tunes from the ’90s and enjoys playing the “ten game” with bus numbers during her commutes. About
Steve is a highly experienced and certified teacher who resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally from Saskatchewan, he completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Double-Honours) in Political Science and Religious Studies from the University of Saskatchewan in 2008. Steve then decided to move abroad to Korea to try his hand at teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). Despite only planning to teach abroad for a year or two to travel and pay off his student loans, it was during his time in Korea that he obtained his TESOL certification, got married, became a father, and decided to pursue teaching as a long-term profession.
After nine years of teaching experience in Korea, Steve decided to move back to Canada in the summer of 2017 with his wife and daughter. He completed his Bachelor of Education Degree in Elementary Education (with a specialization in teaching English language learners) at the University of British Columbia in 2018. Shortly after, Steve was hired by the Burnaby School District where he currently works as a Grade 6/7 teacher.
In his spare time, Steve enjoys watching his favourite English Premier League soccer team, Arsenal, playing badminton, reading, playing guitar, singing, songwriting, and spending time with his family and friends. Steve also moonlights as the lead singer and guitarist of his rock band, Pen Pal Aloha! Steve’s guiding philosophy as an educator can be summed up by Aristotle’s quote: “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” Steve always makes it a point to infuse “heart” and “head” knowledge in the minds of his students, believing that both are equally important in the development of fully educated citizens.

Hi my name is Tara and I am a high school teacher in the subject areas of English and Geography mainly. I have over seven years of teaching experience in both these subjects and in Special Education. I have also taught on a 1-1 basis for learners both in mainstream and with special educational needs. I have taught English as an additional language to many learners who have arrived to the country with little to no English. I also have experience in teaching children in elementary school both in mainstream and in special education too.
I studied a three year Joint Bachelor of Arts degree in the subjects of English & Geography and a two year Professional Masters of Education, both in University College Cork in the Republic of Ireland.
I have made the exciting move to North Vancouver from Ireland and I am very excited to develop my skills and teaching experience here. I really enjoy working with children and I feel a great sense of reward when they develop their understanding of areas that were once very difficult for them to learn about and comprehend. I also love to create a learning environment where the learner feels confident to ask questions and engage in a way that they feel excited to learn. I create this learning experience by having multi-sensory classes therefore each learner can thrive in a way that suits their learning style and needs.
I really look forward to working with your child and I will do my best in creating a fun, caring and learning environment.

“We noticed in grade 5 that our son was having difficulty in math and was overwhelmed taking tests. A friend’s daughter was having great success with Prep Academy Tutors and recommended we contact them to help support his learning. Now he is a different student. Prep Academy Tutors have helped our son get focused, stay motivated and develop strong study and test skills. They use the right combination of encouragement, accountability and challenge and as a result our son’s academic achievements and self-confidence have increased dramatically. We consider Prep Academy Tutors all part of our son’s success team and would highly recommend them.”
“I cannot say enough about Prep Academy Tutors. This is our third year with them and they continue to provide us with experienced, knowledgeable, reliable and personable tutors. Our 15 year old son was diagnosed with a Language Learning disability 3 years ago and since working with Prep Academy Tutors the trend line is up. His self-confidence, ability to organize, test writing fears and marks have all improved. Our son also has a very busy co-curricular calendar and Prep Academy Tutors has been amazing when it comes to flexibility and working together with us to find what works best for all. Prep Academy Tutors also works hard to find the right personality fit for each Student and Tutor. Lastly, having the tutors come to our home is wonderful!”
Prep Academy Tutors has been an outstanding resource for us this year as we all try to navigate this new normal. Their process, and their tutors, have both been top notch and allowed us to give our children the additional support that they need during this time.
In this super stressful time, it gives me much calm knowing my son’s learning is in great hands. We are using both in-person and virtual Prep Academy tutors to supplement my son’s 4th Grade curriculum and I am confident that he is not only not missing a step, but authentically engaged & thriving. I plan on continuing with Prep Academy long after at-home learning is done.
Our tutor from Prep Academy Tutors has had a tremendous impact on our young children’s interest in reading, writing and math basics. They look forward to seeing her twice a week and we’ve never seen our kids so engaged in learning both with her and at school. It’s not just a supplement to school but we also feel it enhances their experience in the classroom.
During a stressful time of private school test preparation, Prep Academy Tutors was a true lifesaver. Their qualified, organized, and experienced staff provided one-on-one sessions of the highest caliber (virtually) which left our child feeling ready to take on the challenges of academic testing. Thank you, Prep Academy Tutors. We highly recommend your services and continue to be grateful!
I am very impressed with Prep Academy Tutors! Within 24 hours multiple tutors were found that were available to tutor my daughter and within days everything was set up. Highly recommend!
Our fourth grade son’s tutor is fantastic! He is enthusiastic and very motivated to help our son tackle very complex math concepts. Our son really looks forward to the tutoring sessions and has become more engaged in his schoolwork as a result.
Prep Academy Tutors helped us structure a small learning pod of first grade children. They helped us work through the details of group size, frequency of tutoring, curriculum and finding a tutor that connects well with the children. The kids enjoy and look forward to every tutor time.
